John is now in the third phase of a successful career, after spending ten years with CPL (a subsidiary of British Coal) at senior levels and over 18 years with eaga plc as its first CEO. He directed 3 major changes to eaga’s corporate structure, creating an entirely employee owned organisation in 2000 and taking it to full listing as a FTSE 250 company on the Main market in 2007.
John retired from his full-time executive responsibilities in April 2009. Since then John has become a business angel and non-executive director whilst also carrying out ‘pro-bono’ duties for the UK’s largest Community Foundation. He has also successfully completed a masters level qualification in executive coaching, believing this to be an under-utilised skill amongst board room teams. He is also an independent director on the board of the eaga Partnership Trust which manages over £170m in assets for the benefit of partners at eaga plc.
Key skills include: experience of rapid growth dynamics; public to private sector transformations; service standard differentiation; and, structural reorganisations across the spectrum of quasi-charity, employee ownership to public limited company within the FTSE 250. John is now seeking to broaden his portfolio of non-executive interests.
