Narec - Narec is increasingly recognised as the national centre for the UK dedicated to accelerating the deployment and grid integration of renewable energy and low carbon generation technologies, utilising offshore wind, wave, tidal, solar PV and thermal power.

Andrew Mill - BSc, C Eng, FIET, FEI, DMS

Andrew Mill is the Chief Executive of Narec, a technology RD&D organisation.  He is a chartered engineer, a Fellow of the IET and a Fellow of the Energy Institute.

He was born in Scotland but attended school in Canada before returning to complete his education in Glasgow.  He attended The University of Strathclyde where he was awarded a degree in electrical engineering and electronic science.

After a period with YARD consultants Andrew joined Rolls Royce Peebles where he was Director and General Manager of the projects division.  The company specialised in providing small alternative energy power plants world wide as well as projects in mining and environmental related technologies.  He has been involved in the energy industry for most of his career including a period as Business Development Director Southern Europe with British Energy.  He spent a short period in the data communications industry where he was Operations Director of a new start up company. Prior to joining Narec he was Managing Director of EMEC the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney.

On joining Narec Andrew took the business from its build phase to a fully operational RD&D and test facility.  It has rapidly gained a strong reputation worldwide as a multi-disciplined RD&D facility specialising in Offshore Renewables, Electrical Networks and Distributed Energy Technologies.  Andrew has steered its growth in commercial activities alongside its RD&D programme where it is involved in both public and private research projects.  It is now embarking on a major growth strategy seeking to build on its role as a bridge between innovation and commercialisation.
 
In his role at Narec he is very active in helping set the carbon and energy agendas nationally and sits on a number of university and other influential committees.  He has presented at conferences worldwide on renewable energy topics. 

Andrew sits on the boards of a number of companies involved in renewable energy and is currently active in assisting the spin out of a number of technologies in the energy field.  He is also a Member of the IET’s Innovation and Emerging Technologies Sector Panel and sits on a number of university and research strategy boards.
