New Proposals for Wind R&D
NaREC is planning to develop some new and exciting facilities for wind R&D
■ Brand new European R&D Campus
■ World’s largest testing facilities
Installed wind capacity is growing by 20GW year on year. By 2050 the world could need over 1000GW. Unless the industry makes rapid step changes in turbine technology; increasing capacity and improving reliability, supply will not meet such demand.
As an independent R&D platform for new energy technology, NaREC is planning to develop the world’s largest wind development facility, to service the needs of manufacturers, suppliers and project developers from around the world making breakthroughs in wind energy technology.
Building such a facility of world significance will require major input from key players across the supply chain, who now have the opportunity to help us to shape our vision for big wind, with work scheduled to begin in Summer 2009. A consultation process is now underway and we are welcoming further input from industry stakeholders who have an interest in European based R&D.
