Narec took part in the kick off meeting in Dublin earlier this month for the EU FP7 €9 million MaRINET project. Focusing on wave energy and tidal stream converters, as well as offshore wind turbines for electrical generation, the project aims to coordinate research and development at all scales (small models through to prototype scales from laboratory through to open sea tests) and to allow access for researchers and developers into facilities. It brings together an infrastructure with 42 facilities from 28 partners spread across 11 EU countries and 1 ICPC, Brazil.
Around half of the funding available will be used to enable transnational access to research facilities and expertise. As a project partner, Narec will provide 49 weeks of access to its testing facilities for marine prototype testing, tidal turbine drive train (3MW capacity) and electrical grid integration.
The first call for projects is expected in November, for further information, contact: Jamie Grimwade, Marine Technology Specialist, email: jamie.grimwade@narec.co.uk or tel: 01670 357601.
