Narec moves up a gear

Narec has in partnership with Sustrans, a charity dedicated to sustainable transport, set up a cycling club to encourage its employees to adopt healthier, cleaner and cheaper lifestyles.

The Sustrans ‘Blyth Active Travel Town’ project is working with Narec and 36 other employers in the Blyth area to encourage more people to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment.

Ten Narec employees completed a 12 mile bike ride last Thursday evening between Seaton Sluice and the outskirts of Blyth. Shona Ridley, Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Narec, said: “It was a wonderful evening and a great opportunity to socialise with work colleagues and enjoy the great outdoors. I know myself and other colleagues are all really looking forward to the next ride.

“As the National Renewable Energy Centre we have an active role to play in encouraging more families, communities and organisations to make smarter travel choices to reduce their carbon emissions. The Sustrans initiative is helping us to do this.”

Mark Curr, Sustrans said: “Narec are a very logical partner for us, and it was an absolute pleasure to take out the group. Already, it seems like this event will lead to more staff travelling actively and I can’t wait to work with them again.”
