Narec has been nominated to receive an IET innovation award in the Emerging Technologies category for their work on the 'Snapper' project. The awards will take place at a gala ceremony and dinner on the 9th of November at the Intercontinental Hotel, London.
Project Snapper is a Seventh Framework Programme research and development
project funded by the European Commission and coordinated by Narec. It involves the development of a novel, low cost, high efficiency rare-earth magnet linear generator for marine wave energy extraction, capable of generating electricity from wave energy with an ultimate target cost of €0.15/kWh.
The Snapper consortium comprises of six industrial partners and two research organisations . Collectively, the industrial base of the Snapper Consortium represents the key stages of a viable SME-centric supply chain for the proposed system, capable of taking the project concept forward to market.
