Following a 6 week tidal flow measurement programme using DCP technology at the EMEC Tidal Test Facility, Narec has developed a fully validated numerical tool that can predict environmental loads transmitted to a tidal turbine drive train when deployed in the open sea.
In addition to furthering industry understanding of the interaction between an operational turbine and its environment, this tool will be used to inform accelerated lifetime testing on the 3MW D
Simulations of the forces and moments that a tidal turbine drive train will experience in real flows were undertaken to inform the design and operation of the facility’s Force Application System (FAS).rive Train Test Facility.
