Project Snapper, an FP7 research and development project funded by the European Commission and coordinated by Narec investigated improvements in marine energy recovery through the development of a novel, low cost, high efficiency rare-earth magnet linear generator for marine wave energy extraction, capable of generating electricity from wave energy with an ultimate target cost of €0.15/kWh.
This two-year project concluded in August 2011 and the consortium are now planning the next stages of development. The project has been shortlisted as a finalist in the IET Innovation Awards 2011.
