Apollon - Multi-Approach for high efficiency integrated and intelligent concentrating PV module systems

July 2008 to July 2013. Total Project Fund - €11.8M

• Multi-national EC Framework 7 program 5 year research and development project
• Project partners:- ENEA, AIXTRON, Narec, CESI RICERCA, CNRS, ENE, CRP, SE SRTIIE, EU JRC, University of Cyprus, CPOWER, SolarTec, ECN, ENEL, Tecnalia Robotiker and UNIFE

 Project Objectives

• Optimisation and development of point focus and mirror based spectra splitting photovoltaic concentrating (CPV) systems
• Increase of CPV efficiency, reliability while minimising costs and environmental impacts

Narec achievements to date (as of Nov 2009)

• Initial silicon cell technology produced
• DOE experimentation completed into emitter and nitride effects on performance
• Concentration testing and characterisation of initial technologies
• Second generation of cell under design development
• Design and demonstration of a front contact design suitable for automated assembly using wire bonding
