ASPIS - Active Solar Panel Initiative

Jan 2009 to Jan 2012. Total Project Fund - € 3.8M

• Multi-national EC Framework 7 program 3 year research and development project
• Project partners :- Fraunhofer IPA, AIT, Narec, ACI ecotec, Heriot Watt University, Solecta, IMOS

 Project Objectives

• Design, development and prototyping of novel parallactic tracking solar module
• Development and verification of cost-efficient manufacturing techniques and dissemination of knowledge among EU manufacturers

Narec achievements to date (as of Nov 2009)

• Extensive cell design and demonstration of over thirty novel cell options for the application
• Initial silicon cell technology produced for prototype modules
• DOE experimentation completed into emitter, laser and BSF effects on cell performance
• Concentration testing and characterisation of initial technologies
