To produce 20% efficient solar cells using very thin silicon wafers (≤100 µm thick) using industrially relevant technology. Moving to thinner substrates decreases usage of expensive silicon while aiming for high efficiencies decreases costs at a system level, but there are many technological challenges with these goals.
Narec’s Photovoltaic Technology Centre will focus on the metallization aspects of such devices, where the PVTC’s expertise in electroless plating is a strong asset.
