Chemicals and Materials

The Chemical and Materials Services (CMS) function provides consultancy based on analytical work and material and environmental testing of industrial materials.  The laboratory facilities have been newly reconstructed to support a focused, solution-based approach to material development, application and investigation.

All work is conducted in accordance with national and international standards, accepted methodology or client instruction.

Specific oil testing capability (electrical grade, lubricating, hydraulic etc.) includes:

• FTIR analysis to determine performance criteria and breakdown products
• Moisture and acidity determinations
• Electric strength of transformer oils
• Measurement of particulate contamination
• Viscosity/density measurement
