At this stage of the development Narec is planning to schedule construction of the offshore turbines in phases.
An offshore wind and environmental monitoring platform is planned to be installed in late spring/early summer 2012, with installation of the first array (5 wind turbines) expected to commence summer 2013/2014.
It is important to reiterate that Narec remains independent from the financial or commercial success of wind turbine testing on the site. Whilst Narec has received a capital grant to establish the substation and offshore platform, it does not cover the capital costs of the subsea cabling or any ongoing operating costs.
Pod tenants will be required to cover the costs of installing their own foundations and turbines, and options for financing the subsea cabling are currently being examined. The operational funding of the Narec substation and platform is anticipated to be met by annual base rents charged to pod operators.
