Initial Wind Resource Assessment

Natural Power have carried out an indicative wind resource assessment (WRA) for the Narec offshore wind demonstrator site near Blyth, Northumberland. This report presents the results of the WRA. No offshore data was available from the Narec project area for use in this analysis.

As a result, data from a meso-scale model was purchased to provide an estimation of the long term ambient wind climate at various locations around the Narec project area.

The data extracted from the meso-scale model was compared to empirical wind data available to Natural Power from within the same wind climate as the Narec site. Concurrent data from these datasets was correlated.

In addition to this, a comparison of the concurrent wind roses was also performed. A good agreement was observed between the meso-scale model predictions and the empirical wind data in terms of predicted mean wind speeds, distributions and wind direction rose.

The Initial Wind Resource Assessment is available to download here.

An updated version of this document, incorporating the previous 3 months of LiDAR data, is now available to download.
